Murphy’s Law of Combat

Edward Murphy Jr. (January 11, 1918 – July 17, 1990) was an American aerospace engineer who worked on safety-critical systems. He is best known for his namesake Murphy’s Law.


 Intuitive and Interesting Murphy’s Law!

  1. A sucking chest wound is nature’s way of telling you to slow down.
  2. The only thing more accurate than incoming enemy fire is incoming friendly fire.
  3. Incoming fire has the right of way.
  4. When you are forward of your position, the artillery will always be short.
  5. Try to look unimportant — the enemy may be low on ammo.
  6. Don’t look conspicuous — it draws fire.
  7. Never draw fire — it irritates everyone around you.
  8. Never share a foxhole with someone braver than you.
  9. Teamwork is essential — it gives the enemy other people to shoot at.
  10. No combat ready unit ever passed inspection.

  13. Make it too tough for the enemy to get in and you can’t get out.
  14. If your attack is going really well, you’re in an ambush.
